- A report by UN’s Food and Agricultural Organization and Paris-based Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD):
- Global farming is inclining towards meat and milk production, away from the traditional rice and grain agriculture.
- By 2023, meat production will increase to 58 million tonnes.
- 80% of that increase will be accounted for by the developing countries.
- Of this, 50% is by poultry (which is an inexpensive source of protein without any cultural or religious ban) and, 30% by pork.
- Farming will move away from the traditional rice and grain agriculture towards coarse grains and oil seeds to meet the demands for food, feed and biofuel.
