- The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) trained a batch of 25 women personnel who completed a close-quarter combat training demonstrated the new skills that they learnt, the batch consists of 800 women who will be posted at various stations of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC)
- Over 2.5 million commute on an average in the metro rails and most of them are women, CISF and DMRC will be benefited and the initiative will improve the safety
- The training went on for three months and its origin is from Philippines and armed forces across 30 countries have used the Pekiti-Tirsia Kali method
- Day to day objects carried by women and with the help of kicks, punches the trainees showed how one can protect themselves, articles such as pens show how it can be used as an important weapon when situation demands
- A trainee opined that one should focus to cause minimum damage to miscreants but render them defenseless at the same time; the training was tedious but now is more confident as it is helpful on metro coaches and premises
- Inspector General of CISF told that more batches will be trained simultaneously looking at the increasing foot falls at the metro trains
- Pekiti Tirsia Kali-India director said “Kali is an edge and impact weapon combat form. By edge I mean even a ball pen can be used as a weapon and you can even kill the enemy with that. Then you have knives and swords. And by impact I mean a handgun. The full form of COMBAT is ‘counter in motion before attack time’, meaning before you can even hit me I stop you”
- This form is one of the martial art forms and the Indian Army’s Special Forces, the National Security Guard, the Indian Air Force’s Garud Commando Force and a Chhattisgarh Special Task Force have used this and also being used by the US Special Forces
