Women are Worst Victims Of Criminalisation of Politics, says Brinda Karat

  • CPI (M) politburo member Brinda Karat during election campaign raised issues related to attacks on women.
  • She also raised issues pertaining to ‘criminalisation of love’. Issue relates to murder of a 17 year old girl near Ujire in October 2012. She alleges a mentally retarded person has been arrested to protect the real culprit
  • Karat says women are the worst victims of criminalisation of politics as political parties were more interested in protecting the accused than arresting him
  • Alleged sexual attack on local woman Councillor by rightwing activists came up during Karat’s campaign speech
  • She spoke of safety of inter-faith couples and those leading life under a consensual relationship, terming it ‘criminalisation of love’
  • She alleged national parties work to protect interests of people from corporate sector
  • She batted for rights of beedi, mid-day meal, anganwadi workers, health activists, which are being ignored by parties
  • She criticized the ‘Gujarat model of development’ & said that it accounts for high rate of malnutrition and pathetic record of PDS.
