What is a Stillbirth?

  • Stillbirth is when the fetus has died inside the uterus, usually after 20 weeks of pregnancy.
  • This occurs in full-term pregnancies and is different from a miscarriage. The causes could range from birth defects, placental problems, poor fetal growth, infections and umbilical cord accidents. The cause for majority of stillbirths has not yet been ascertained.
