- Citizens protesting against the military coup in Thailand have now adopted the 3-finger salute from the popular “Hunger Games” series, as a sign of protest and resistance.
- Some also equate the symbol to the french motto “Liberty, Equality and Fraternity”.
- In the movie series, the competitors initially use the gesture to mean thanks, admiration and goodbye to a loved one, later developing into a symbol of their uprising against a wealthy, totalitarian regime.
- The military, which now controls the media and has imposed a night-time curfew, has warned people against flashing the symbol, as a gathering of 5 or more flashing the same could face arrest under its ban on public protests.
