- US is intending to provide assistance to rebels in Syria as it believes they play an important role in pushing back the ISIS insurgency that is threatening to tear up Iraq.
- As part of its Regional Stabilization Initiative to stabilize Syria and its neighbours of Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey, it will provide $500 million in arms and training to Syria rebels fighting to oust Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
- The decision came in after talks that were held with Saudi, Jordanian and UAE representatives held in Paris. Saudi had consistently sought for US assistance to the rebels in Syria.
