- President of Sri Lanka has a cause for concern during the 25th session of the UN Human Rights Council which will take up issues on the ‘report of the UNCHR on promoting reconciliation & accountability in Sri Lanka’ .
- Several new aspects are incorporated in the draft resolution submitted by USA, like the attacks on minorities; Importance of transitional justice and reparation policy; Sri Lankan government to broaden the scope of its national action plan based on its Lesson Learnt Reconciliation Commission (LLRC).
- Tamil Diaspora and pro-LTTE elements in Tamil Nadu are disappointed with the draft resolution, ‘Promoting reconciliation and accountability in Sri Lanka’, as it stops short of using the phrase “international investigation into war crimes”
- High Commissioner’s recommendations and conclusions on the need for an independent and credible international investigation, are welcome, but High Commissioner should assess the progress toward accountability and reconciliation; monitor relevant national processes; investigate alleged violations and abuses of human rights and related crimes by both parties in Sri Lanka.
- Post 2008 SAARC summit Indian PM has visited Pakistan more often than Sri Lanka owing to its refusal to de-militarise northern part Sri Lanka.
- The question of the political rights of Tamils should be addressed at the earliest.
