- Department of Information and Technology officials said around 15000 students and unemployed will get central and state financial assistance to train in ESDM (electronic system design and manufacturing)
- Though Karnataka joined late among the six chosen states it became the first to have dialogue with prospective training and industry partners at the workshop on skill gap identification and curriculum finalization
- Karnataka gets Rs.14 crore out of Rs.100 crore allotted by the center to develop ESDM skill base
- A steady 15% growth in electronics assembly manufacturing and more than million are employed in the electronic sector but still low and the industry is projected to need over the next 5 to 10 years
- The state directorate of IT and Biotechnology told youth between 8th to non technical graduation will get skill development courses lasting 200 to 400 hours
- Electronics, telecom, LED, and solar and photovoltaic sectors are the courses offered
- The cost may cost Rs.1000 to 15000, while the center will pay 75% and the rest will be born by the state
- Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Uttarakhand are the states to train 90,000 youth in ESDM under the National Electronics Policy approved in late 2013
- According to Mr.Burma, Managing Director of the State-owned Karnataka Biotechnology and IT Services told that 100 partners have been signed to offer courses and train the youth
- Skill councils of telecom and electronic center organised jointly with the department’s nodal National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIEILT)
