UN Struggling to Manage Increasing Numbers of Syrian Refugees

April 9, 2014 by Admin Leave a Comment

  • The violent demonstration in Zataari, the largest Syrian refugee camp in Jordan with over 120,000 refugees, which erupted over the detention of a refugee family and a driver who was helping them escape, has left the United Nations in shock. One person was killed in these demonstrations and dozens wounded.
  • Governments and International aid agencies are struggling to manage the millions of Syrian refugees who have fled to the neighbouring Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey. Jordan alone is home to 588,979 registered Syrians refugees, most of who are staying in organised camps close to the northern border and are under the direct care of UN and the Jordanian govt.
