- Following Justice Mukul Mudgal Committee’s report on IPL irregularities that named 13 people, including BCCI president N Srinivasan, on unverified charges of spot-fixing and betting, the Supreme Court said it will probe the matter very seriously.
- It did not reveal the names or the nature of the allegations, but said that these charges were brought to the notice of Srinivasan who failed to act on them. The court also directed him to stay out of BCCI until investigations are complete.
- To maintain its autonomy, and to protect the reputations of eminent personalities who may be innocent, the SC has suggested the BCCI to form a new panel to probe into these unverified allegations or the court could appoint a Special Investigation Team (SIT) for it.
- Members of BCCI have called an emergency meeting of the Working Committee to decide on the course of their reply to the court’s decision. This excludes Srinivasan who had earlier dictated all of its responses to the Court.
- BCCI interim president Sunil Gavaskar, has expressed indecisiveness over whether Sundar Raman, who is alleged to have misled the committee on the status of Meiyappan, should continue as IPL chief operating officer. However, he has been retained for this year.
