Supreme Court Asks Madras High Court Why Some Communities Were not Represented

Apex court: why no representation to some communities in Madras HC?

  • The Supreme Court had asked why some specific communities were not represented in the High Court of Madras in the last 60 years. It said that this kind of omission can’t be justified as just a coincidence.
  • It states that, this might have larger social dimensions on some specific parts of society are not effectively represented at the Bench.
  • According to Justice J. Chelameswar, this issue on representations of different communities has not been addressed completely. The SC Collegium has now returned the list of such cases to the Union Law Ministry, to be sent it back to the High Court.
