- Voyager 1 is still active and continues its journey; launched in 1977 the spacecraft has entered interstellar space the first man made to do so said NASA
- In September 2011 Voyager 1 might have gone from the sun’s heliosphere and entered interstellar space in 2012, interstellar is a region between stars filled with plasma
- Scientists say that this region is like a quite lake and when the sun has bursts it sends a shock wave outward that reaches Voyager about a year later, three such waves have entered Voyager so far
- The first wave was captured much later but the second was evident through spacecraft’s cosmic ray instrument
- By the second wave NASA got to know that Voyager has been flying through plasma that was 40 times denser than measured before — a telltale indicator of interstellar space
- After the third wave was captured data showed that the density of the plasma was similar to what was measured previously
