- South Africa told the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) that they will keep India posted on its reconciliation efforts with Sri Lanka
- South African Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa interacted with the Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa and informed the TNA delegates on their reconciliation process
- Discussion was mainly on addressing ethnic and post-war environment while Mr.Ramaphosa will meet Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran to discuss issues
- While India has put efforts and South African initiatives have been complimentary to the Geneva resolution and few Western countries involving with Sri Lanka on the issue of reconciliation
- Its been five years since the war is ended but still around 1,50,000 soldiers are still in the offensive areas, but army is involved in all civilian life initiatives said the Chief Minister
- In the common wealth summit held in South Africa the President said he wants to help Sri Lanka post the five year long war
- India has been constantly helping Sri Lanka post-war reconciliation but the Tamil minority continues expressing concern over the lack of substantial political devolution
- During Mr.Modi’s meeting with the President Rajapaksa he has urged Sri Lanka to implement the 13th Amendment output of Indo-Lankan agreementof 1987 which talks of devolving more powers to the provinces – and go beyond it, as was promised by Sri Lanka in 2010
- In order to address Tamil questions India has encouraged Sri Lanka and TNA to talk in order to address the Tamil question
- Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) has discussed the matter says the Sri Lankan government
- PCS has only partners in President Rajapaka’s ruling coalition as constituents, but the main opponents are The United National Party, Janathâ Vimukthi Peramua (JVP) while TNA have boycotted them asking for an explanation to tell the terms and conditions
