- Despite strong backing to the solar industry by the new govt, the reimbursement of over Rs. 375 crore subsidy dues of the direct channel partners/manufacturers of solar water heaters has been pending since 2012.
- In 2010, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) launched a mission of deploying 20,000 MW of grid connected solar power by 2022, and hence reduce the cost associated with solar power generation.
- To further this scheme, it offered a 30% subsidy on solar water heaters sold through the direct channel partners across the country, to be reimbursed to the channel partners.
- However, despite repeated reminders it has been pending, as a result of which majority of the companies are on the verge of a shutdown since they have limited resources and are also falling short of cash.
