- Mr. Shyam Negi (97 years of age) is a retired schoolteacher, from the tribal district of Kinnaur(Chinni in Kalpa)
- He is called as “India’s first voter” by the Election Commission of India and now has been as roped in as “Pledge Your Vote” campaigner.
- His 1st vote was in Oct 1951, and he voted months before other citizens of the country, due to heavy snowfall in the hills and has since then voted in all Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
- The commission’s diamond jubilee celebrations was in 2010, and he was honored by the Chief Election Commissioner, Navin Chawla.
- He is preparing for a record by casting during the 16th Lok Sabha elections which is scheduled in May 2014.
