Sharp Rise in Heat Waves in Urban Areas
  • Since last 40 years the world's urban areas face sharp rise in heat waves while cold snaps have become more infrequent.
  • Such changes had increased significantly between 1973 to 2012.
  • Urban areas are affected by warming as a result of climate change and also from “Urban heat Island” effect whereby the built up space trapped more heat than surrounding rural areas.
  • Higher levels of aerosols reduce the amount of sunlight reaching the ground, may the reason for slower rate warming of this country.
