- Supreme Court controlled the Haryana Sikh Gurudwara management Committee (HSGMC) from taking command of 51 of the 52 gurudwaras in the state
- Bench of Justice passed the order taking note of the that one gurudwara was taken over already by HSGMC, hearing a writ petition raising a question on the constitutional validity Haryana government directed status quo with the other gurudwaras
- Bench directed the police officials to take measures to maintain law and order and also directed Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the HSGMC to open separate bank accounts and deposit all the offerings in that account
- A note issued by Senior counsel to the Bench explained the situation in the state and detailed steps taken by the administration to maintain law and order
- SGPC and HSGMC meeting at Yamunanagar failed the to resolve the issue, the situation is under control so far with the help of police further attempts by the HSGMC groups may lead to violent clashes between the groups
- SGPC member further questioned the validity of the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara (Management) Act, 2014 for want of legislative competence of Haryana to enact it
- Currently SGPC are in control of historic gurudwaras in Haryana while willful attempt is being made by Sikhs of Haryana prompted by the present government in the State to wrest control of the gurdwaras by use of militancy and force
- Senior counsel appeared for the petitioner and submitted a letter that the state has no legislative ability to pass law as the gurdwaras in Punjab and Haryana were governed by the SGPC
- Center only can pass law on this issue as per Attorney-General but a senior counsel said h would place before the court relevant judgments to justify that Haryana had the legislative competence to pass the law.
