- Water Resources Ministry budget allocated is Rs. 13,836 crore with a focus on Ganga Rejuvenation and Irrigation
- Rs. 8,992 crore set aside for the Accelerated Irrigation Benefit and Flood Management Programme allocation has upraised the total budget by 566% while there was no allocation for this the previous year
- An integrated programme for conservation of Ganga named “Namami Gange” was announced by the Finance Minister with an outlay of Rs. 2,037 crore and Rs.1000 crore under the “Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojna” to improve access to irrigation by rain-fed farmers
- Besides this Rs. 100 crore is allotted for Kedarnath, Haridwar, Kanpur, Varanasi, Allahabad, Patna and Delhi ghat development since they are rich in historical heritage and are sacred as well
- NRI fund for Ganga is set up and will finance special projects to encourage the NRI community towards conservation of Ganga
- ‘Jal Marg Vikas’ (National Waterways-I) project on Ganga river will be developed between Allahabad and Haldia covering 1620 km distance and an expected amount for this project is around Rs. 4,200 crore
- 16 new port projects are proposed to focus port connectivity and Rs. 11,635 crore to be allocated for developing Outer Harbour project in Tuticorin for phase 1. SEZs will also be developed at Kandla and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust.
- During the previous NDA regime Inter Linking of rivers was proposed and the same will revived with an allocation of Rs. 100 crore for preparation of Detailed Project Reports
