INS Concern over Threat to Arunachal Daily
- The Arunachal Times had decided to suspend their publication, to avoid the conflict with a student group.
- A massive group was allowed by Itanagar District Administrators to stage a ‘dharna’ outside their head office. This move by the district administrators clearly shows that their main purpose was to intimidate the newspaper.
- According to INS, it was yet another incident among the sequence of attacks on North East Press. These kinds of attacks are being planned by the mainstream groups that demand publishing only their viewpoints, and show extreme prejudice towards others.
- Now, it has become extremely important for the governments to ensure that the ‘right to free speech’ is protected in the Constitution, and should be enshrined and secured.
