- Chief Justice of India, R. M.Lodha publicly expressed displeasure over the lack of funds allotted to judiciary. With the allotment being less than 1% of the budget, improvement of infrastructure for speedy dispensation of justice becomes distant.
- Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that:
- The funds allotted under the ”Centrally Sponsored Scheme for Infrastructure Facilities for Judiciary” have grown from 50% to 75% in the last 3 years.
- In Northeast States, the assistance was up to 90% of the infrastructure expense for judiciary.
- Indiscriminate adjournments by courts in criminal cases, including in rape, has contributed to the delay in justice delivery.
- This contrasts with the CJI’s view that lack of technology hinders efficient delivery of justice.
