Rehab in Kutch is a Model for Rest of India: World Bank

  • Onno Ruhl, country director of the World Bank was at Bhimasar village in Kutch.
  • “The owner-driven construction of houses undertaken in Kutch after the 2001 earthquake today stands out as a role model for other disaster-prone areas of the country.
  • This model is much more faster, transparent and has better quality,” he said. “The best part of the rebuilding process here is that we now have city-like amenities in a village.
  • Secondly, about 98 percent of these new homes have toilets as compared to 10 percent before the quake,” Ruhl said.
