Sarva Siksha Abhiyan: An assessment of dropout rates in Schools

  • Government’s flagship scheme SSA has yielded dividends to some extent but it was observed that there was a reduction in retention rates of students than the ushered the enrolment rate.
  • The reasons for dropout rate of students are as follows:
    • Common Reasons
      • Migration-Mainly among construction and agriculture labourers,
      • Involvement of students in household works.
      • Far distance of school from their homes.
    • Gender Specific Reasons
      • Puberty
      • Marriage at early age
      • Working as a breadwinner for family(boys)
