“The Android-based application ‘Hejje’ (or Pug Mark) developed for forest staff at Bandipur Tiger Reserve has come in handy in ensuring a more effective watch over fire-prone areas. It uses a GPS-enabled tracking system that allows senior staff to monitor movement of forest guards. So far, one of [Hejje’s] critical features — of monitoring movement of guards — has come in handy for authorities to ensure that ground staff do not step down their vigil. Foot-patrolling of forests is a must in wildlife conservation. With Hejje, senior officials get real-time info on the movement of watchers & guards & based on other inputs, they can be redeployed at critical areas.”
