- Sierra Leone, Guinea and Siberia have taken stringent steps to combat the world’s worst ever Ebola outbreak and has agreed to launch a $100 million response plan at an emergency regional summit to be held in Guinea.
- They have declared a public emergency and a round of measures such as:
- Quarantining Ebola-hit areas.
- Deploying security forces to protect medical workers.
- Banning all public meetings not related to Ebola.
- Shutting down all schools.
- Placing non-essential govt employees on leave.
- The measures will be in place of 60 to 90 days and then reassessed.
- There has been rising fears over a possible spread to other European and Asian nations and experts feel that the crisis is going to worsen in the days to come.
- The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and global health officials are also discussing over potential measures to halt the spread of the disease.
- The casualties from the outbreak stand at 729, 122 more cases were detected and the virus has thus far killed over 55% of those that it has infected.
- Symptoms include severe muscular pains, fever, headache and in worst cases, unstoppable bleeding.
