- Residents of Ferguson, Missouri, have taken to streets protesting against alleged brutality of the police after a teenager was reportedly shot down multiple times by a police officer following a tiff.
- Although it was peaceful protest initially, looting and rioting followed and a fierce crackdown by SWAT teams with rifles and armoured cars followed suit.
- Social media was swarming with iimages and videos of residents running from tear-gas filled streets and of individuals wounded by rubber bullets.
- A no-fly zone has been declared over Ferguson. There were reports of journalists being arrested by police for no apparent reason other than for having filmed police officers during the protests.
- President Obama expressed concern over the turn of events and added that the police should never be involved in bullying the public or arresting journalists who are trying to do their job.
- The American Civil Liberties Union of Missouri initiated a lawsuit against the police and demanded the release of all public records on the case, to which they are entitled under state law.
