Cops have the greasiest palms in Karnataka, if bribe payments reported on the portal I-Paid-ABribe are an indication.
Till November 25 this year, 843 citizens paid a whopping Rs 8.67 crore as bribe to the men in khaki
The department tops the list of 37 departments utilities in terms of corruption.
In all, 7,148 people admitted to paying policemen Rs 15.12 crore since 2010.
The transport department is the second-most corrupt with 261 people having paid Rs 3.12 lakh to officials this year.
Since the launch of the portal, the department has seen 1,777 reports of bribery and Rs 58.28 lakh as money collected.
However, the stamps and registration department and customs and excise department are attempting to become less corrupt.
Reason: the numbers of bribe reports have come down since 2012 going by the portal's data.
The stamps and registration department faces 188 charges from people who have paid bribe in 2014 till November 25 as against 258 reports in 2013 and 416 reports in 2012.
Similarly , there were 67 reports of bribe paid to the customs and excise department till November 25, 2014, this is against 101 reports in 2013 and 174 in 2012.
According to the portal, Karnataka seems to be the most corrupt state for the second year in a row with 6,593 people having reported payment of bribe, followed by Maharashtra (3,165), Andhra Pradesh (2,439) and Tamil Nadu (2,172).
