Panels To Advise Railway Ministry

  • The govt is setting up advisory committees comprising experts from various fields on foreign direct investment, resource mobilisation, information technology initiatives etc., in the Railways.
  • This will also help finalize the modalities of investment in the Ministry.
  • FDI will not be allowed in operation of train services and will be limited to creation of infrastructure.
  • Railway will not be privatized in India.
  • In 3 years, the rail connectivity in north-eastern states will be enhanced and funds have been set aside for the same.
  • The govt is planning on setting up four Railway universities in the country as opposed to one university proposed in the budget.
  • This will provided skilled manpower to the Railways.
  • The syllabus, style of functioning and so on is being finalized and laws will be changed if situation demands it.
  • The universities may be rolled out by next year.
