‘Operation Smile’: Police Trace Missing Children

  • The police have formed seven teams for ‘Operation Smile,’ an initiative to trace missing children reported in the district police limits in the last 10 years.
  • They have prepared details of 32 children who were reported missing and could not be traced in the last 10 years.
  • Superintendent of Police Vijayendra Bidari said : Our team, headed by an Inspector of Police or Sub-Inspector of Police, will collect details of children at orphanages, homes and those living on the streets, railway stations, bus stands and other crowded places without parents and guardians.
  • Once such children were identified, the police would try to match them with details of missing children in the district, and later with neighbouring districts at the zonal and State levels.
  • The process of identifying the children without parents and guardians was under way.
  • It would be completed by this month-end
  • Mr.Bidari said: The data would be shared at the national level too in an attempt to re-unite missing children with their parents
