  • Codenamed ‘Operation smile’, the month-long campaign is being carried out in coordination with the officials of the District Child Protection Units in the respective districts.
  • The State-wide campaign has been launched based on a communiqué from the Crime Branch-CID following instructions from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
  • Special police teams constituted in all eight districts for the purpose have been mandated to trace the missing children in their respective jurisdiction.
  • Police personnel of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit were being engaged to trace the children by carrying out checks at children’s homes, orphanages, railway stations, bus stands, and religious places.
  • Particulars of the rescued children would be matched with the information available with the police on missing children to reunite them with their parents.
  • A pro forma has been circulated to police personnel regarding missing children and the filled-up information should be sent to the CB-CID to be forwarded to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
  • The Tiruchi Childline, an organisation that provides emergency services to children in distress, had restored 65 children to their parents / guardians in the last nine months.
  • Broken homes and crisis in the family were among the important factors that force children to run away from home.
