One Rank, One Pension For Judges

April 1, 2014 by AmbitionIAS Leave a Comment

  • 3-judge Bench, headed by Chief Justice while looking into petitions filed by retired judges, said that the pension should be paid akin to salary, allowances, perks and pension paid as serving judges.
  • The Bench brought out the contrast between the fixation of higher pension,to judges served for shorter period drawn from the subordinate judiciary and the judges who served for longer period drawn from the Bar which was discriminatory and breach of Article 14.
  • The Supreme court highlighted that the pension of High Court judges, irrespective of their source(district judges/lawyers) there should not be any disparity.

Exams Perspective:

  1. One Rank One Pension for Judges
  2. Article 14
