- Olive Ridley turtles have started mass nesting at Rushikulya Roorkey, which lies on the coast of Ganjam district in Odisha.
- Going by the last year’s pattern of these endangered species at this preferred nesting ground, they seem to have started off nesting one week earlier.
- Typically, mother turtles come to monitor the condition of the coastline, before the mass nesting season arrives.
- The forest department does not allow visitors to come within 3 km around this beach, in order to prevent any kind of disturbances to these nesting species.
