- The union Law Minister rethinks the objection from Judges on accountability bill, pending in Parliament
- The bill requires judges to declare details of their assets, which will allow any person to complain against judges on grounds of ‘misbehaviour or incapacity’
- A meeting will discuss the bill and Judicial Commission providing for appointment and transfer of judges in the higher judiciary with the Chief Justice and judges
- Futher the government has also asked the Law Commission to look into civil cases & possibility of turning them into criminal cases (context of Samsung personnel arrest)
- Mr.Prasad said filing such criminal cases have been affecting investment ambiance and hence the Arbitration Act to be more effective to make India a hub for international arbitration
- The initiative taken by the ministry now is to streamline pending cases (22 lakh cheque bounce) and vacancies of judges
- The ministry has urged the Chief Justices of various High Courts and to the State governments to fill pending vacancies to clear the fast track cases pending to women, children and elderly people
