Number Of Girls-Only Families Decreasing

July 23, 2014 by Admin Leave a Comment

  • A United Nations report has revealed that the falling sex ratios in India is clearly evident with the negligible-number of girls-only families in some parts of the country.
  • Extra sons are not wanted either as most families prefer one son and at most one daughter.
  • A steep fall was recorded during the period of unprecedented growth, mainly in the north and north-western India which witnesses the Green Revolution.
  • The trend is also seen in the ratios of children of medical doctors and gynecologists themselves.
  • Institutions and personnel directly mediating sex ratios at birth such as clinics and medical practitioners are an important area of research.
