Nuclear Convention Ratification – The road

  • In 1988, when Mikhail Gorbachev visited India, the two countries signed an agreement to build a nuclear power plant in India.
  • Ten years later it was felt desirable to offer protection to victims through a third party liability regime. And on February 4, 2016, 15 years after that first recommendation, India ratified the CSC. The Convention comes into force 90 days later — on May 4, 2016.
