- In a written letter by Sumitra Mahjan, Lok Sabha Speaker wrote to the congress that she will not approve the party’s demand for the post of Leader of the Opposition as it did not get 10% seats in the house
- This above mentioned details was based on a response to Congress President Sonia Gandhi’s letter and during budget it was clear that Congress will not get the status, while the congress also sought a legal opinion
- As per the congress party and Mr.Mallikarjun Kharge he opined that speaker should follow salary and allowances of Opposition Party Leader Act 1977during a decision
- He further said the Acts says that the single largest party among the opposition parties should be declared the main opposition party and its leader conferred the opposition leader status in the Lok Sabha
- He did not comment on the issue further and said that he will wait for the speaker’s decision; however Act is much more superior to the rules and regulations
- Mr.Kharge is the Chairman of selection committee of the party in the elections to the Maharashtra Assembly and he said that the assembly election will be different from the Lok Sabha elections swept by the BJP
- He further said that the government promised a lot of things that it would bring down inflation and prices of the essential “Achche Din Ayengi” is still a far cry for the common people”
- While Ms.Mahajan cited about the 1980 and 1984 incidents Lok Sabha had no recognized leader of the Opposition while Congress’s argument was things had changed
- Further he said that the BJP leaders should stop day dreaming and congress party will raise as a Phoenix
