Need To Redefine Diplomacy Between India and Lanka

July 17, 2014 by Admin Leave a Comment

  • Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to India, Sudharshan Seneviratne who recently visited India spent a greater part of his student life in India.
  • He said that:
    • Issues such as implementation of the 13th amendment, which confers more powers to the provinces, the fishermen’s conflicts or the claim to Katchatheevu can be resolved by working together without being parochial about it.
    • There is a need to redefine diplomacy to include shared histories, culture and heritage of the 2 countries in addition to the political and economic ties.
    • It is important to look at issues holistically as these concern people belonging to both the nations.
    • A strong people-to-people connection between the countries should be established.
