- Violent clashes have erupted between Muslims and Buddhist monks in the coastal city near Colombo in Sri Lanka during a protest rally by the Buddhist group Bodu Bala Sena (Buddhist Power Force).
- The clashes were said to be triggered by an alleged attack on a Buddhist monk by 3 Muslim youths who were then arrested. In response, Buddhists allegedly burnt town several shops belonging to the Muslims.
- There were conflicting reports on the number of casualties with some quoting a number of 3 dead and 78 injured. No connections were made with regard to the clashes yet.
