Melting Glaciers, More Rain to Swell Himalayan Rivers

  • Himalayan rivers to receive voluminous discharge of water due to quick melting of glacial ice because of rise in temperature and hot climate.
  • As per a study in Nepal, The Netherlands, Himalaya’s 5 rivers Indus, Ganges, Brahmaputra, Salween and Mekong will be impacted in coming decades
  • Study that appeared in Nature Climate Change, 5 rivers life line of 1.3 billion people in about 12 countries, by 2050 these rivers to receive increased glacial run-off .
