- Medha Patkar social activists spoke about a key provision made by Modi government in the Land Acquisition, Resettlement and Rehabilitation Act, 2013
- The consent and ‘social impact assessment’ (SIA) provision of Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency was implemented because of the irregularities of the previous Act, while the farmers were not consulted neither did they were a part of a the process of development planning
- Private and Public corporations purchased huge lands by paying a meager amount in the name of puvlic purposes
- Ms.Patkar further said “It will be a retrograde step if we were to go to back to the colonial process of forced land acquisition with no regard for impact of land acquisition on the people, environment and democratic institutions that need to be consulted and their consent taken in the process of SIA,”
- The new government seemed to be in a hurry to give away land for industrial houses by not bothering forests and wildlife and trampling people’s resistance
- Ms.Patkar is the advisor of National Alliance of People’s Movements (NAPM) has called upon the people to stake their claim on the properties which has been acquired on basis of old land act
- NAPM convener told that people will be informed about their rights under the new Act
