- International Labor’s Day also called as May Day saw the following responses worldwide:
- In Turkey, police has to fire tear gas and water canon to contain the thousands of protesters who paraded the Red Square, a first such incident after the break up of Soviet Union in 1991. The surge of patriotism observed is attributed to annexation of Crimea.
- Protesters in European countries such as Italy, Greece and Asian countries such as Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and Taipei also took to the streets protesting against unemployment, demanding for better working conditions and salary hikes.
- In Cambodia people had to be dispersed by use of force.
- In Malaysia thousands of people rallied to protest the price hikes implemented by the government. Rallies were also seen in other Asian countries.
- In contrast, Russians marched in a rather happy fashion waving their flags and balloons and carrying placards which explicitly displayed their faith in their President and his way of dealing with the Crimean crisis.
