Malware Pony Blamed For Bitcoin Heist

  • Cyber criminals, with the help of the infected computers have made away with at least $220,000 worth virtual currencies like the Bitcoins, LiteCoin, FeatherCoin, and 27 others.
  • Trustwave, a security firm stated that the criminals have hacked the computers through malware, which is named as ‘Pony.’ Pony botnet has breached the securities of around 700,000 computer users. Criminals then get direct control of the users accounts.
  • Botnet stole around 600,000 websites login credentials, 100,000 email accounts credentials and other secured information
  • Bitcoins are developed by cryptographic experts sending and receiving money at lower transactions fee, when compared to the conventional finance methods. Although they are legal, there have been instances where they have been used for illegal drug trafficking, money laundering, and in the websites controlled by the underworld.

Exams Perspective:

  1. Malware
  2. Cyber Security
