- As clashes between Buddhists monks and Muslims in its coastal city of Aluthgama increased, Sri Lanka deployed army in the region to contain the violence.
- Arrests were made in regard to the clashes and also for breaching the curfew that was imposed.
- The opposition party in the Lankan govt accused the ruling party’s minister of inciting violence through this speech and the govt of not taking proper action.
