- Iraqi forces, with the help of tribal fighters successfully fended off the militants in the Haditha which is strategic for the presence of a large dam (which they may have used to flood the villages) and an oil refinery.
- They also reclaimed Diyala province with the help of civilian volunteers. Kurdish Peshmerga fighters helped push back the militants in various regions.
- The militants meanwhile overran the Shia dominant towns of Al-Tawakul and Al-Zarkush displacing thousands of its residents.
- The UN urged Iraq to quickly form a govt lest the country descend into chaos. Already 5 provinces have been taken over by the militants.
- The Iraqi MPs are to meet for a Parliamentary session to achieve the same, however they are apprehensive about the same as the previous session saw very less turnout and had ended in mayhem.
