Iraq Closing In On Militants

  • Iraqi forces have managed to repel the terrorists advancing on the capital and captured two cities back from the terrorists.
  • US rules out sending its troops to the country, but has deployed an aircraft carrier group to the Gulf.
  • Iran has warned US against military intervention and said that Iraq is capable of defending itself.
  • While several Iraqi soldiers had earlier given up arms and uniforms and had abandoned the military, several civilian volunteers have taken up arms to protect their city, but a recruitment centre was attacked, and many were killed.
