India To Soon Become World Capital Of Liver Diseases

April 20, 2014 by Admin Leave a Comment

  • India may well become the world capital of liver diseases by 2025 due to the following reasons:
    • Sedentary lifestyle
    • Unrestrained consumption of fatty food
    • Increased alcohol consumption
    • Smoking
    • Unconstrained blood sugar levels
  • These factors also lead to Non Alcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH), a silent liver disease that resembles alcoholic liver disease but is found in people who consume little or no alcohol, causing inflammation and damage of the liver, ultimately even leading to cancers.
  • Fatty liver and NASH have been found even in children, but is more common between the age group of 40 and 49.
