Immunity can’t be claimed by Officials in Speaker’s office in corruption cases before Lokayukta
- The Supreme Court has held that, no immunity is given to the officials working in Speakers Secretariat. This was stated in turn of events where a few staff of Speakers Office have been charged by the Lokayukta on corruption cases.
- This action does not violate the privileges granted to the legislative assembly.
- There is no provision which allows for omission of the registration of cases, filed by the authorized body that is responsible for bringing the corrupt officials to book, those officials will also have to go by the same laws. Hence, the provisions of the Lokayukta Act are equally applicable to the Speaker’s Office.
