- IIT-Delhi faculty has won a one million pound grant to build a robot with a sense of touch that will enable it to carry out operations like lift, an elderly person or a patient out of bed, or even a cup of tea by gauging the differential pressures required for each of these activities.
- The robot, which can also sense heat, will be the first such to be constructed thus far as scientists have found it difficult to incorporate flexibility and tactility at a nano scale.
- This robot will have electronics and sensors incorporated on 50mm thick bendable silicon surfaces by using nanofabrication tools at the University of Glasgow. This is expected to open who new avenues in the areas of nanotechnology, robotics and flexible electronics.
- It can also be potentially used to replace flat screens on computers or tablets.
