- International Human Rights bodies called on Nepal legislators to reject the draft Bill on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) owing to its ‘melmilap’ provision which is being vehemently opposed by survivors and victims of the conflict era largely because it calls for amnesty for even those whose crimes are considered heinous under International Law.
- While supporters of the Bill believe it would promote reconciliation and resolve the issues of long running Maoist conflict, its opponents say it violates many Human Rights norms and well as Supreme Court’s directives.
