HRD Criticized For Proposal To Scrap UG Course In IISc

August 8, 2014 by Admin Leave a Comment

  • The HRD Ministry has drawn a lot of criticism over its proposal to scrape the undergraduate course from Indian Institute of Science, with many even terming it retrograde.
  • IISC is the only Indian institute with a global ranking, and students in the university’s UG course pass 3 competitive examinations to qualify and are supported by scholarships.
  • The course is interdisciplinary with physics, mathematics, chemistry, biology, engineering and humanities, and research-oriented projects supervised by a faculty subsequently.
  • The institute has written to the Ministry saying the IISc.’s course does not align with UGC guidelines and want the students’ interests protected.
