- Third Line Drug Therapy has been launched in India for helping those people suffering from HIV/AIDS as a part of Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART). Eligibility norms of the past have been modified to bring more people under this umbrella.
- This particular third-line therapy is highly expensive, and it is also referred to as the Rescue Therapy or the Salvage Therapy.
- This therapy is prescribed as the last resort to those people who have failed to recover, despite completing 2 stages of drug treatments.
- If the reports of individuals show HIV resistance towards even one of the drug regimen, then this therapy is recommended for them.
- This treatment will be offered for free in this campaign.
- Rajya Sabha has passed the Human Immunodeficiency Virus Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (Prevention and Control) Bill, 2014.
- The main objective of this bill is to empower the HIV patients with their human rights, and also for preventing the disease from spreading
- This bill also suggests to prohibit discrimination against persons infected with HIV like rejecting or terminating them from job, inequitable behavior, force them for HIV testing and restrict them to come into your area.
- There have been many cases where people with HIV have been looked down upon in the society, and have been restricted from visiting certain places.
- Also, they have been terminated from their jobs solely for that reason. This bill also aims at curbing all such discrimination against people who are HIV infected.
